Robots.txt and Site map

Hi friends,
I am doing SEO from last three months,and i heard about these two terms Robots.txt file and Site Map.I know little about them.Please tell me in detail that how we can make them and use them in SEO.I know they are beneficial but untill i will know working and development of them how can i take benefit of them.
So please tell me how to make them and use them for my website.
