Do yahoo index 301 redirect pages as well?Hi, hope you can help me. I have a problem with one of our sites; it lost rankings significally in February and we lost most of our referals from Yahoo, this wouldn't be so bad if we didnt get about 20% of our referals from there. I started to investigate and found that although we have about 240 pages listed in Google Webmaster Tools (the site is small) Yahoo has indexed 800 pages. Most of these pages are dublicated so will put a noindex on them but, Yahoo has also listed pages that have been redirected (301 properly, have checked them all), how is this possible? My plan is to noindex pages, clean up sitemap and submit to Yahoo and thinking about buying a directory listing just for good meassures. Question - Can Yahoo really index redirected pages? If so what do I do? If not, what can be wrong? Thanks!

Do yahoo index 301 redirect pages as well?Yahoo! should properly index a 301 redirect, but we have seen that it takes more time for them to recognize and include these than Google. I'd definitely advise the Yahoo! Directory link (just for good measure, not because it will necessarily help with this specific problem), and I'm also a fan of registering your site with Yahoo! Site Explorer and sending a sitemap to them (with the cleaned-up pages and the proper versions of the 301'd URLs).

Do yahoo index 301 redirect pages as well?Sorry, probably wasn't clear enough. My problem is that Yahoo has both the new urls and the old urls indexed, when I check the cache on the old pages it can't be found and the old urls redirect correctly to the new url. How can Yahoo index the new AND keep the old?

You might want to consider using Site Explorer's URL removal tool - http://ysearchblog.com/2007/02/26/keeping-ad-tracking-and-dead-urls-out-of-yahoo-search/ - to get the old ones out, but to be honest, if it's 301 re-directing, they should be picking those up. You might want to leave a message for the Yahoo! Search team at http://suggestions.yahoo.com/?prop=SiteExplorer and see if you get a response. They actually do have Yahoo! folks who will post replies to pertinent/relevant questions.

The urls where updated in November but the drop in rankings didn't happen until February, does it normally take that long for Yahoo to update and do you think this is the reason for the lost rankings?

Do yahoo index 301 redirect pages as well?Seems unlikely on both counts - I'd wonder if something else triggered the drop, either technical or off-site (links losing power, or dropping off, or being penalized)...
