Kabhi Khushi Kabhi GamYashovardhan Raichand (Amitabh Bachchan) is well-distinguished extravagantly well-respected man with a foundation of a strong business empire. He lives a lavish lifestyle with his wife Nandini (Jaya Bachchan) and their two sons Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan) and Rohan (Hrithik Roshan). Yash is firm on values, heritage, and traditions of his ancestors, which he tries to pass onto his two sons. Rahul, the eldest son found out at the age of 8 that Raichands had adopted him, which is deeply considers it as a debt for the rest of his life.
